"When founding Blendworth Brass Band in 1982 I set out five guiding principles: we would develop a wide-ranging repertoire of good quality music; we would strive for the highest possible musical standards without participating in national contests; we would provide our services free or at reduced fees for local good causes; we would be open to all players of reasonable standard with a desire and commitment to progress; and we would encourage a sociable and friendly atmosphere."
